Interested in learning how to screen print and having some fun at the same time? Hope is a gifted and joyful teacher who loves to help people learn about screen printing. Little Chair Printing regularly offers screen printing workshops, classes, and print happy hour events! With over 10 years of experience as a teacher and facilitator in both traditional classrooms and community settings, Hope can bring the creative magic of screen printing directly to you or can host workshops at Little Chair Printing’s studio and community space in Portland. Please note: Screen printing workshops generally include working with inks that can permanently stain clothing, and so are appropriate for ages x and up. (And don’t worry—we’ve got aprons for you!)
Visit our calendar [insert link] for the most up-to-date info about our events, or reach out to schedule something for your group, classroom, organization, or business. We’d love to hear from you!
An overview of our offerings:
Workshops are typically one-time events that are scheduled on a case-by-case basis, and can include one or up to 10 people at a time. Screen printing workshops usually last 3-4 hours, and include creating an image, burning a screen, printing multiples of the project, and cleaning up.
Classes are multiple-session events that are scheduled regularly and are determined by interest: each class has approximately six(?) available slots. Classes typically meet 4-6(?) times, for approximately 2 hours(?) each session. Participants will create an image, learn how to make a transparency for a screen, coat & burn a screen, print the image, and clean up. Over the course of the class, Hope will also share information about the history of screen printing as an art, and be available to answer all of your questions about the process.
Print Happy Hours are fun, engaging, low-cost social gatherings of people who are interested in a unique creative experience with a welcoming, laid-back vibe. Little Chair Printing will provide snacks, one drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic!) for each person, and a short, hands-on screen printing lesson. Bring along something you’d like to screen print onto (we’ll also have shirts & poster paper available for purchase.) You’ll leave with a piece of screen printed apparel or a poster and a few new friends!
Community means everything to Hope. Part of the mission of Little Chair Printing is to connect with as many communities as possible in order to teach the skills of screen printing and to create an ever-expanding network of social justice artists, activists, and individuals across Maine and, ultimately, the world. Hope is deeply invested in co-operative values and visions, and participates in many community events, groups, and other happenings. One of her biggest goals is to be an accessible screen-printing shop: available to work with people who might not otherwise have access to the exciting and powerful art of screen printing.
Little Chair Printing is collaborative to its core. Hope is continuously dreaming and scheming about new and interesting ways to work with artists and activists in Maine and beyond. Some of her favorite collaborations include: Bomb Diggity Arts, Publications Studio, Pickwick Independent Press, Spin off Studio’s, Maine Inside out, Portland Outright.
